Kathy and I always knew we would be moving to Canada someday. The question was always when … never why, or how. Although we often talked about it, a major push was needed to get things in motion. That push came on election night, and the victory of Donald Trump to the White House. We started working, even as the crying and wringing of hands continued.
Initially the planning progressed on two fronts, applying for residency status for Kathy (I am a Canadian) and finding a place to live. Making Kathy legal was facilitated by my Canadian citizenship, and the fact that we are married. While the end result was never in question, there were many hurdles along the way. For the most part Kathy concentrated on the immigration issues, while I looked for our new home.
